The Honourable Geoff Regan, P.C., M.P., Speaker of the House of Commons
On December 3, 2015, the Honourable Geoff Regan was elected as the 36th Speaker of the House of Commons. Mr. Regan first served in the House of Commons from 1993 to 1997 as the Member for Halifax West, Nova Scotia. He was re-elected in 2000 and served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons from 2001 until 2003, and was appointed Minister of Fisheries and Oceans from 2003 to 2006.
Following the change in government in 2006, Mr. Regan served as a member of the shadow cabinet and of the Liberal Priorities and Planning Committee, then as Chair of the Caucus Committee on Environmental Sustainability as well as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. He was re-elected in 2008 and 2011, and served both as a member of the shadow cabinet and as Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Natural Resources.
